New judicial appointment to the County Court of Victoria’s Criminal Law Division

11 September 2019

The County Court offers a warm welcome to Her Honour Judge Rosemary Carlin.

Judge Carlin comes from the Bar and brings with her more than 30 years’ experience as a legal practitioner.

She has represented numerous government bodies as a crown prosecutor for Victoria, senior crown prosecutor for the Northern Territory, in-house Counsel for the Commonwealth Director of Prosecutions, and as a prosecutor for both state and Commonwealth law enforcement agencies.

During her time as a crown prosecutor, Ms Carlin was involved in a number of significant cases, most notably R v Tang, a case that established the modern legal definition of slavery in Australia.

Judge Carlin was appointed as a magistrate in 2007 before being assigned to the Coroners Court in 2014 where she has conducted a number of complex medical inquests.

Her Honour's welcome ceremony will be held on Thursday 3 October at 9.15am – watch the livestream.
