County Court of Victoria Court opens its doors for inaugural community engagement day.

Senior judges came together with community leaders on Friday 19th October to improve justice outcomes and strengthen understanding of the Victorian legal system.

County Court of Victoria Chief Judge Peter Kidd welcomed more than 20 community and support service leaders for a day of discussion and education. The inaugural County Court Engagement Day event, created in partnership with Victoria University’s Sir Zelman Cowen Centre, allowed participating leaders to:

  • Learn about the County Court and its processes.
  • Gain crucial skills, resources and support to share their knowledge with their communities.
  • Challenge their thinking about the legal system and the role of judges in sentencing.

Throughout the day, participants observed real court hearings, worked in groups on mock sentences and engaged one-on-one with a number of County Court judges.

Chief Judge Peter Kidd said proactive engagement was just one of the significant steps taken to improve the Court’s connection with the Victorian community to increase public awareness of the Court’s work.
