Summaries of County Court Sentences Now Available
Key information from hundreds of County Court decisions is now available in a new user-friendly, easy-to-read format.
The ‘sentence overview tables’ cover more than 50 separate offences and include details of the offence, the offender and penalty imposed.
This important new resource is a window into the County Court, providing insight into the types of matters judges deal with and the range of sentences imposed. The tables allow users to quickly survey a large number of cases. They include links to the sentencing decisions themselves for those users who want further information.
The tables appear in the Judicial College of Victoria’s ‘Victorian Sentencing Manual’, which to date has only included summaries of Court of Appeal decisions.
Summaries of around 400 County Court sentencing decisions from the period 1 January to 30 June 2016 now form part of the Sentencing Manual. Further sentence summaries will be added each month.
The summary tables are available as web-pages and downloadable Word documents. The most common offences are also summarised in Excel spreadsheets, allowing users to search, sort and filter material more easily.
